Using coupled simulation models to link pastoral decision making and ecosystem services
Historically, pastoral people were able to more freely use the services their semi-arid and arid ecosystems provide, and they adapted to changes in ways that improved their well-being. More recently, their ability to adapt has been constrained due to changes from within and from outside their communities. To compare possible responses by pastoral communities, we modeled ecosystem services and tied those services to decisions that people make at the household level.

An epidemiological approach to aquatic disease control: a study of the risk factors associated with outbreaks of White Spot disease in artisanal systems in Vietnam and India. Final Technical Report.
This project adapted existing epidemiological techniques to the study of risk factors for White Spot Disease (WSD) shrimp (Penaeus spp.) in two vulnerable farming systems in the Mekong delta of Vietnam and South West India. WSD is a pandemic disease of shrimp caused by an unclassified virus commonly known as White Spot Syndrome Virus (WSSV). Two different approaches were adopted: in Vietnam a small number of farms were involved with the focus on detailed examination pond level risk factors for outbreaks of disease.
